It just doesn't get any better than pulling books all day at the courthouse and typing runsheets all night in the trailer while munching on warmed up Deni Moore Beef Stew and watching NCIS reruns. However should anyone wish to interject some life into their life, this page is where we can share our discoveries of some of the better restaurants, golf courses, fishing lakes, nite clubs, and other sources of R&R that we have come across while following the play.
If you have any places you would like to suggest, email them to R&R@donredd.com.

EAST TEXAS

Madison County, the World Mushroom Capital of East Texas, not only boasts an in-door swimming pool at the Best Western Motel, but is also home of  The Woodbine; a nationally acclaimed bed and breakfast inn with award winning dining supervised by Chef Susan Warmuth. Entrees which would run thirty dollars upward in houston are less than ten dollars for lunch. It is also a nice place to stay if it isn't full with landmen who can usually be found in the downstairs lounge after 6:00.

Breakfast at the drug store across from the courthouse is the place to meet local landowners who gather there every morning for coffee.

A state law makes it a crime to wear boots in Madisonville if you don't own cattle. So stick with the Doc Martens or else carry a picture of your favorite heffer with your brand clearly visible.

Nacogdoches County.

Sleep at the Hampton but relax at the Fredonia seems to be the general concensus. One old Scout claims that he could learn more in one night at the Fredonia than in a week of crawling thru high grass with binoculars and dumpster diving at RV parks.

The Barnett Shale

Johnson County. One landman swears that Babes Restaurant in Burleson has the best fried chicken in Texas. No one has challenged his opinion yet. The chiken fried steak is about the best you will find in a town large enough to have a traffic light.

DFW Airport Area. Scuba Joe's inside the Holiday Inn on Hwy 183 at Murphy Street is about the closest thing to a landman's watering hole in the area. But for those on expense accounts, The Gaylord on 121 is top shelf.
